IN OUR FUNDS
We listen, contribute ideas, offer advice, and take action.
Econopolis is an independent Belgian boutique asset management firm with a clear mission: to grow wealth sustainably in a world undergoing fundamental change.
Conviction-driven
Our investment strategy is based on the major trends outlined in the books by our CEO, Geert Noels: *Econoshock* (2009), *Gigantism* (2018), and *The Climate Shock* (2023).
A Clear Vision
Strong track record
Independent & Belgian
One of Belgium’s last remaining independent asset managers. No hidden agendas, no dependence on a major banking structure.
Econopolis: The Background
In 2008, economist Geert Noels published *Econoshock*, a book that challenged the foundations of the global economy. In the wake of the great financial crisis, he advocated for an economic model that looks beyond short-term profits. Sustainability, stability, and social responsibility must once again take center stage in the economy.
The Founding of Econopolis
It is with this vision in mind that Econopolis was founded: an independent financial and economic firm that brings together economic analysis, asset management, and strategic consulting under one roof. It is not a bank, nor is it a parent institution with its own products, but rather a boutique firm that acts exclusively in the client’s best interests.
Partnership with Landbouwkrediet (Crelan)
The partnership with Landbouwkrediet—now known as Crelan—lays the foundation for a broader range of funds and wider distribution. This is initial proof that Econopolis’s independent vision is also winning over major financial partners.
Launch of the first Econopolis mutual funds
Econopolis is translating its long-term vision into its own investment solutions and launching its first in-house funds. This makes the firm’s economic analysis tangible for clients.
From Vision to Themes
With his book *Gigantisme*, Geert Noels further refines his social analysis, and Econopolis sharpens its focus on thematic funds centered on long-term structural trends such as technology, climate, and demographics. During this period, Econopolis also builds up distinct expertise in Belgian equities, a competency that would later earn the firm recognition on multiple occasions.
Launch of "The Climate Shock" & New Thematic DBI Funds
With the publication of the book *De Klimaatschok*, Econopolis made sustainability a core competency: the belief that responsible business practices yield more robust results in the long term was systematically embedded in its management practices. That same year, Econopolis also launched its first two thematic DBI funds for companies seeking to invest in a tax-efficient manner.
The Founding of Ortelius
Econopolis is launching Ortelius, its strategic consulting division with its own team of economists, engineers, lawyers, and scientists that advises companies, governments, and industry associations on economic and future-oriented issues.
Twain and an Expanded DBI Offering
Econopolis and Allianz are launching Twain, which makes professional asset management accessible to a broader audience of discerning investors, combining Econopolis’ independent perspective with Allianz’s scale—digital where possible and personalized where it matters. That same year, Econopolis expanded its DBI offering with two additional funds, creating one of the broadest DBI portfolios on the Belgian market.
Econopolis as a financial knowledge center
The team expanded to include specialists in various fields. Today, Econopolis stands for independent thinking and forward-looking strategy. Just like a rook on a chessboard, it provides perspective, stability, and direction. In this way, Econopolis helps companies, institutions, and families make well-considered financial decisions.
